By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. 1 John 5:2-3*

     The Ten Commandments (The Decalogue)

I. Thou shalt have none other gods but me.

II. Thou shalt not make to thyself any graven image; thou shalt not bow down to them, nor worship them.

III. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain.

IV. Remember that thou keep holy the Sabbath-day.

V. Honor thy father and thy mother.

VI. Thou shalt do no murder.

VII. Thou shalt not commit adultery.

VIII. Thou shalt not steal.

IX. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

X. Thou shalt not covet.

As a summary of the Decalogue, Our Lord Jesus teaches us: "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets" Matthew 22:37-40*.  From these two, we learn our duty towards God and our duty towards our fellow man.

Our duty to God is:

I., II. To worship Him, give thanks to Him, to wholly trust Him, and to call upon Him;

III. To honor his holy Name and his Word;

IV. To serve Him truly throughout life.

Our duty to our neighbor is to do unto all men as we would they should do unto us:

V. To love, honor and help our father and mother; to obey the civil authorities and to always conduct ourselves as becomes Children of God;

VI. To hurt nobody by word or deed, nor to bear any malice or hatred in our hearts;

VII. To keep our bodies in temperance, soberness, and chastity;

VIII. To keep from stealing and be true and just in all our dealings;

IX. To keep our tongues from evil speaking, lying and slandering;

X. To learn and labor truly to earn our own living and be satisfied with that which it brings us.

Jesus taught them, saying... "Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfill them.  For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished.  Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven."Matthew 5:17-19*
